Notes: March 10, 2009 – Jeremiah 17

Sin engraved on your heart

  • v 1. How can you erase the evidence and effects of sin in your life?
  • v 1. Is the evidence of sin displayed in your religious activity also?
  • v 2. Children notice sin in their parents’ lives.
  • v 5-6. Depart from God and you won’t be able to see good around you.
  • v 7-8. Be environmentally friendly. Be a tree planted by the Lord. Psalm 1.
  • v 9. Do you doubt the sinful depravity of Man? You thus prove the deceitfulness of a sinful heart.
  • v 10. God alone knows our hearts.
  • v 13. Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall not be ashamed.
  • v 14. When God heals, we shall be healed. When God saves, we shall be saved.
  • v 15. Some men mockingly call for the word of the Lord. They cannot understand it; much less will they act upon it.
  • v 19-27. Men who have forsaken God’s word may continue with religious activity; but they need someone who will faithfully stand outside their little charade and denounce it.

Notes: March 9, 2007 – Jeremiah 15 & 16

Is God tired of your repentance?

Jeremiah 15

  • v 1. Do you think that prayers from a saint will put you into God’s favor? Think again.
  • v 2-4. God’s wrath manifests itself in many forms, all with the same end-sinners are separated from God.
  • v 6. Do you weary God with your hypocrisy?
  • v 16. When bad news comes, turn to the word of God for guidance.
  • v 17-18. All who would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
  • v 20-21. Deliverance from evil without salvation from sin is but a minor healing.

Jeremiah 16

  • v 2.  Allow God to determine whether and whom you will marry and have a family.
  • v 5. Jeremiah had been instructed not to pray for the rebellious people; and here is forbidden to mourn their captivity.
  • v 10. Why do bad things happen to bad people? Because of their sin.
  • v 15. The exodus from Egypt would be eclipsed by the restoration of Israel from captivity.
  • v 19. When God saves some, others take notice.

v 1-11. Lessons from a linen girdle

v 18. The king and queen were not exempt from hearing the Word of God

v 22. Why do bad things happen to bad people? They deserve it.

v 23. Self-reformation is impossible.

v 27. When will it change?

Jeremiah 14

v 1-7. Drought in the land.

v 7. We have sinned against you, Lord.

v 10. Some men love to wander away from God.

v 11. Don’t ask God to do something good for this people.

v 12. Not all fasting is beneficial.

v 14-15. Not every preacher speaks for God.

v 22. The God who controls the weather, He is God.
