The captivity of Egypt (Isaiah 20)

  • Assyria will take over Egypt
  • And along with it, Assyria will conquer Ethiopia
  • Israel will realize how foolish it was to think that Egypt and Ethiopia would be its savior.

Other nations will fall (Isaiah 21)

  • The Medes and Persians will conquer Babylon (v 1-4)
  • Edom should repent (v 11-12)
  • Arabia’s forests will be invaded (v 13-17)

  • Bad advice (v 3)
  • Political oppression (v 4)
  • Drought (v 5-10)
  • Unwise leadership (v 11-13)
  • A broken spirit (v 14-17)

II. Conversion in Egypt (v 18-22)

III. Conflict resolution (v 23-25)

  1. Egyptians worshiping the God of the Jews?
  2. God blessing Egypt and Assyria?

Notes: January 8, 2009 – Isaiah 17 to 18

The Fall of Damascus (Syria)

Isaiah 17

  • Damascus will fall (v 1-3)
  • Israel will be judged, too (v 4-6)
  • A remnant shall survive (v 7-8)
  • The reason for this judgment? Forgetting God (Isaiah 17:10)

Isaiah 18

  • The nation beyond the rivers, traveling by sea in vessels of bulrushes (v 1-2). Egypt?
  • God will do something (v 3-4) before harvest time (v 5-6). Will he save Egypt and her Israelite refugees?
  • If so, then Egypt and the Jews in hiding should thank God for His mercy (v 7)

Notes: January 7, 2009 – Isaiah 15 to 16

A Word for Moab

Isaiah 15

  • Night attacks (v 1)
  • Utter destruction

Isaiah 16

  • The ruler shall flee (v 1) along with the young women (v 2) who will be forced to wade through water
  • Israel is counseled to be merciful (v 5)
  • Proud Moab (v 6) will suffer horrible destruction (v 7-13)
  • All of this to occur within 3 years’ time (v 14)
