Notes: January 2, 2009 – King Ahaz, Part 1

2 Kings 16 (1-6); 2 Chronicles 28 (1-15); Isaiah 7

  • Ahaz was 20 years old when he began to reign; and his reign lasted 16 years in Jerusalem.
  • Though a southern king, he was notably wicked.
  • His religion was little different from a heathen’s; he offered his son in a fiery sacrifice.
  • In an act of sinful piety, he refused to obey God, alleging a desire not to tempt the Lord

Notes: January 1, 2009 – Micah 4 to 7

Micah 4

1 ¶ But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Micah 5

2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Micah 6

8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Micah 7

6 For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.

18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

A nation bent to sin

Micah 2

  • God doesn’t like bullies (v 1-3)
  • The nation will be judged for its sin-even to the extent of being cast out of the land (v 4-10)
  • Do they really approve of false prophets? (v 11)
  • Restoration of such sinful people? Why not? God is merciful (v 12-13)

Micah 3

  • When leaders go bad (v 1-12)
  • Zion shall be plowed under (v 13). Is this by the Babylonians or the much later Romans?

Notes: December 30, 2008 – Micah 1

  • Samaria with its idols will suffer (v 6-8)
