Revival

After delineating such horrible judgments in the previous chapters, the prophet is privileged to convey the promise of revival.

  • The desert shall bloom (v 1-2, 6-7). Oh that dry souls might blossom and rejoice.
  • Isaiah 35:3; Hebrews 12:12
  • Fear not; God will come and save you (Isaiah 35:4).
  • Isaiah 35:5; Matthew 11:4-5.
  • The holy highway-the way to God. John 14:6.
  • The ransomed of the Lord shall return to God (v 10). The unsaved shall perish.

Notes: January 17, 2009 – Isaiah 33 & 34

Isaiah 33

The Lord is our judge,

the Lord is our lawgiver,

the Lord is our king;

he will save us. (Isaiah 33:22)

  • And who says that it’s wrong to judge?
  • And who complains about legalism?
  • And who demands democracy?
  • And who needs to be saved?

Isaiah 34

A history lesson for all nations (v 1)

Is it well with your soul? (Isaiah 34:4)

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

A theology lesson (Isaiah 34:16)

Revival will follow

Isaiah 31

  • Don’t trust in armies to save you; trust in God (v 1)
  • Men are not God (v 3)
  • Though destruction is in the future, revival will follow (v 7)

Isaiah 32

  • A king who rules in righteousness, surrounded by princes who rule justly. Hezekiah? Hezekiah as a picture of Christ? (v 1)
  • Wicked men shall grow worse and worse (v 2-8)
  • Revival will follow (v 16-20)

Notes: January 15, 2009 – Isaiah 29 & 30

Isaiah 29

  •  Under the name of Ariel (a lion) Jerusalem, the city of David, is warned of its demise (v 1-6)
  • The nations that will come upon Israel will be noted for their lust for death and drunk-like stupor of destruction (v 7-12). Or does this describe Israel?
  • Further, those pagan lands will be hypocrites (v 13-17). Or does this describe Israel? Jesus uses this passage to describe the vain worship of Israel in His day (Matthew 15:7-9).
  • When the deaf hear and blind see (v 18-24), can this refer to any time other than the life of the Messiah?

Isaiah 30

  • Why would Israel turn to idolatrous Egypt for help? (v 1-17)
  • The captive people will be restored to God’s grace (v 18-26). Is this not fulfilled in Christ?
  • God will destroy the Assyrians (and all other forces) that oppress His people (v 27-33).
