When surrender is the best choice

Those who were taken captive to Babylon learn of the coming destruction of Jerusalem and the horrors to befall those who disobeyed God and remained in the homeland.

Ezekiel 12

  • A “moving” illustration (v. 1-7).
  • Prediction of the final destruction of Jerusalem (v. 8-16).
  • How one eats speaks to his mental state (v. 17-20).
  • Do not scoff at the warnings of God (v. 21-28).

Ezekiel 13

  • God will judge lying prophets – and preachers (v. 1-9).
  • Poor building materials do not make strong buildings (v. 10-16).
  • Women preachers / prophets are not exempt from God’s judgment (v. 17-23).

Notes: April 6, 2009

Vision of God’s glory

As in chapter 1, Ezekiel sees God again. However, on this occasion God’s glory seems to be moving away from the temple.

Ezekiel 10

Remember that the infallible meaning of this vision is that Ezekiel realizes he is in the presence of God.

  • Ezekiel 10:4, 18

Ezekiel 11

  • Those who disobeyed God and stayed in Jerusalem receive God’s condemnation (v. 1-13).
  • Those who obeyed God and submitted to Babylonian captivity will be favored (v. 14-21).
  • God’s glory departs the city; and the Spirit returns Ezekiel to Babylon where he witnesses of his vision (v. 22-25).

Ezekiel 8

  • God’s glorious revelation (v. 1-4)
  • Hiding behind closed doors (v. 5-8)
  • Abominable images of God (v. 9-13)

  • Abominable nature worship (v. 16-17)
  • God’s certain judgment

Ezekiel 9

  • God chooses and marks some for salvation (v. 1-4)
  • Death to those whom God has not marked (v. 5-11)

When bad things happen, does anyone listen?

Ezekiel 6

  • Judah will fall (v. 1-7)
  • A remnant will be saved (8-14); that they may know the Lord.

Ezekiel 7

  • The destruction shall be widespread and thorough (v. 1-15) because of the gross sins of Israel
  • Gold and silver will not deliver them; yet a remnant of them shall be saved (v. 16-19)
  • God’s secret place, the temple, will be destroyed (v. 20-22)
  • Ezekiel’s chain gang (v. 23-27)
