The Fall of Egypt

Ezekiel 29

  • The king of Egypt, like the king of Tyre (Ezekiel 28), thought he was God (v. 1-3)
  • God will go fishing and catch the Egyptian king with a hook (v. 4-7)
  • God will send the Babylonians to rule over Egypt (v. 8-12)
  • God predicts that Egypt will be restored as a nation, but it will never attain its former glory (v. 13-16)
  • God gives Egypt as spoils for Babylon which had conquered Trye some years before (v. 17-20)
  • God will restore Israel (v. 21)

The fall of Tyre and Sidon

These sister cities were known for their sin. God does not forget.

Ezekiel 28

Tyre (v. 1-19)

  • The king who thought he was God (v. 1-10)
  • What a devil he was (v. 11-19)

Sidon (v. 20-23)

  • God will be glorified in their midst, whether they participate willingly or not
  • God will destroy them with pestilence and sword
  • God will be known, ever knee shall bow, every tongue confess

Israel (v. 24-26)

  • Shall return from captivity
  • Shall know who God is

The Fall of Tyre

Such destruction should be remembered; such memory should encourage us to obey God.

Ezekiel 26

  • Destruction comes upon those who boast in their oppression of God’s people (v. 1-2)
  • Destruction comes at the hands of others equally cruel, including the king of Babylon (v. 3-7)
  • Destruction comes from a mighty military (v. 8-14)
  • Destruction may be lamented by one’s neighbors (v. 15-18
  • Destruction like this is irreversible (v. 19-21)

Ezekiel 27

  • Destruction like this should be remembered (v. 1-2)
  • Destruction like this affects the shipping industry (v. 3-9)
  • Destruction like this affects the military (v. 10-11)
  • Destruction like this affects international trade (v. 12-25)
  • Destruction like this is noted by the affected shipping industry (v. 26-32)
  • Destruction like this affects world leaders and populations (v. 33-36)

God announces the day of Jerusalem’s fall (v. 1-14)

God will punish sinful nations who oppress His people.
