Notes: October 26, 2008 – Proverbs 20 & 21

Proverbs 20

  • Don’t be deceived. Drinking wine doesn’t make you wise (Proverbs 20:1)
  • Don’t be lazy (vs 4; 19:24)
  • God hates business cheats (Proverbs 20:10, 14, 23)
  • Even a child is not by his behavior (Proverbs 20:11)

Proverbs 21

  • Does the possibility of having (name) as your next President frighten you? It shouldn’t! (Proverbs 21:1)
  • Remember King Saul’s disobedience! (Proverbs 21:3)
  • The plowing and sacrifice of the wicked is sin (Proverbs 21:4, 27). God doesn’t approve of every religious activity.
  • A wife is good to have (Proverbs 18:22); but  watch out for the bad ones (Proverbs 21:9, 19). And remember the problems that Eve made for Adam, and Jezebel made for Ahab.
  • Goliath was defeated by little David. (Proverbs 21:31)

Notes: October 25, 2008 – Proverbs 18 & 19

Proverbs 18

  • Judging is proper; prejudicial judging is not (Proverbs 18:6)
  • Fools are just asking to be beat (vs 6)
  • Some men trust in God; others vainly trust in the stock market (vs 10-11)
  • Don’t be a fool; listen to what they ask before you try to answer (vs 13)
  • Everybody thinks he’s right (vs 17)
  • Have you noticed how some people think they have the right to be obnoxious? (vs 23)
  • Do you want to have friends? Then you must __________________________________ (Proverbs 18:24)

Proverbs 19

  • Money makes friends (vs 4)
  • Everybody like to receive a gift (vs 6)
  • A nagging wife is like Chinese water torture (Proverbs 19:13)
  • Kids grow up and move out; spank them while they need it and you can (Proverbs 19:18)
  • Some folks just keep getting into trouble (vs 19)
  • Stop listening to those who encourage you to break God’s commandments (Proverbs 19:27)

Notes: October 24, 2008 – Proverbs 16 & 17

Proverbs 16

  • Man’s Plans and God’s Will (vs 1, 9)
  • Why did God make the world? (Proverbs 16:4; Revelation 4:10-11)
  • Some things are better than others (vs 8, 19)
  • Even kings must obey God (vs 12-15)
  • Complete this Biblical phrase:  “Pride goeth before _______________” Proverbs 16:18.
  • Gray hair is not necessarily a bad thing (vs 31)
  • There is no such thing as Luck (Proverbs 16:33).

 

Proverbs 17

  • Love rejoices not in iniquity (Proverbs 17:5; 1 Corinthians 11:6)
  • Solomon believed in our responsibility to our Creator (vs 5)
  • Gossip and tale-bearing are evil (Proverbs 17:9, Proverbs 18:8; Proverbs 20:19)
  • Why pay for education if you aren’t going to use it? (Proverbs 17:16)
  • Nobody wants foolish children (Proverbs 17:21, 25)
  • Do you notice a relationship between your state of mind and physical health? (Proverbs 17:22)
  • A wise man doesn’t need to talk a lot (vs 27)

Notes: October 23, 2008 – Proverbs 14 & 15

Proverbs 14

  • It’s settled, then. If I want people to see that I’m a busy person, I should leave my desk cluttered (Proverbs 14:4)
  • Also settled is this: I should not go to church or university where God is not known (Proverbs 14:7)
  • How many TV programs would there be if nobody mocked sin? (Proverbs 14:9)
  • Things are not always how I see them (Proverbs 14:12)
  • Don’t believe everything you hear (Proverbs 14:15)
  • Control your temper (Proverbs 14:17, 29)
  • Solomon believed in creation (Proverbs 14:31)
  • Contrary to popular opinion, sin is not only a private matter (Proverbs 14:34)

Proverbs 15

  • It doesn’t always work, but have you ever tried it? (Proverbs 15:1)
  • God sees everything (Proverbs 15:3)
  • Not all religious activity is approved by or accepted by God (Proverbs 15:8, 26, 29)
  • You don’t look so good. Why? (Proverbs 15:13)
  • Maybe you shouldn’t work so much (Proverbs 15:16-17)
