A new regime for Israel

2 Kings 9

  • God instructs Jehu to be anointed as the next king of Israel (vs 1-12)
  • Jehu is responsible for the deaths of both the king of Israel and the king of Judah (vs 13-29)
  • Jezebel dies a violent death, as God had predicted (vs 30-37)

2 Kings 10

  • The family of Ahab is killed (vs 1-11)
  • The false prophets and the worshipers of false gods are killed (vs 12-28)
  • Jehu falls short of complete obedience to God (vs 29-36)

2 Kings 11

  • Joash is hidden by his sister for six years lest their mother kill him (vs 1-3)
  • Jehoiada, the priest, orchestrates the coronation of the lad as the new, and rightful, king of Judah (vs 4-12)
  • Wicked queen Athaliah sees this as treasonous, and finds herself executed for the same (vs 13-16)
  • Jehoiada leads the people in a great revival (vs 17-21)

Repeating the same mistakes

2 Chronicles 21

  • Killing one’s brothers (vs 1-4)
  • Following in the sinful steps of one’s father (vs 5-11)
  • Sick and dead because of one’s sin (vs 12-20)

2 Chronicles 22

  • A sole surviving son and his wicked mother (vs 1-4)
  • Unholy alliances (again) (vs 5-6)
  • Wrong place, wrong time (vs 7-9)
  • Killing the royal children so she could assume the throne (vs 10-12)
