Notes: May 27-28, 2008 – Joshua 10 & 11

The conquest of the land continues…

  • Gibeon’s pact with Israel caused surrounding cities to join together (Joshua 10:1-2, 6-7). One wonders whether that consolidated enemy force would have been avoided if the peace with Gibeon had never been made.
  • Giant hailstones fell on the enemy (Joshua 10:11). God takes sides and influences His creation accordingly.
  • Why, even the sun stood still until Israel had won the day (Joshua 10:12-14).
  • Souls (Joshua 10:28-39). Every slain Canaanite had a soul.
  • The chariot horses were not killed, but they were made unable to run and pull chariots. The chariots were burned (Joshua 11:6, 9).
  • It was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly (Joshua 11:20). Cause and effect, and the reason why.
  • The Anakim giants were slain, except in Gaza, Gath and Ashdod. Do you remember David and Goliath of Gath (1 Samuel 17:4, 23)? If we don’t completely get rid of our enemies, they will come back to cause us trouble.
  • Joshua took the land; and the land rested from war (Joshua 11:23).
