Notes: January 30, 2009 – The Book of Nahum

The burden of Ninevah (Nahum 1:1).

Do you remember Jonah? The city which had been granted repentance soon returned to its wicked ways.

Nahum 1

What do we learn about God?

  • God is jealous (v 2)
  • The Lord revenges (v 2)
  • The Lord is furious (v 2)
  • The Lord is slow to anger (v 3)
  • The Lord is powerful (v 3)
  • The Lord will not acquit the wicked (v 3)
  • The Lord is master of wind, water and land (v 3-5)
  • The Lord is good (v 7)
  • The Lord is a safe place in our day of trouble (v 7)
  • The Lord knows who trusts Him (v 7)
  • The Lord will destroy His enemies (v 8-10)

Nahum 2

Get ready, Ninevah, for the conquering Medes and Babylonians.

If God is against you, how can you stand? (Nahum 2:13; Nahum 3:5)

Nahum 3

Ninevah was a wicked place, full of

  • lies (v 1)
  • robbery (v 1)
  • whoredoms (v 4)
  • witchcraft (v 4)

History worth remembering (v 8-10)

A world-wide economy cannot save a wicked nation (Nahum 3:16,19)

Nahum 1:15
15Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
Romans 10:15

Nahum 2:13
